Full name: Seth Bennett
Alias: N/A
Age: 27
Birthday: 1st September 1983
Hometown: Edison, Ohio
Appearance:
Seth seems like a man who’s too big for his body; his limbs muddled and put together wrong – a permanent worry line on his brow seems to suggest his confusion. With long gangly limbs on restless legs that seem to lollop him about wherever he goes, he adopts a rather sprightly walk on slightly bowed legs. Impatient, he’s always fiddling with something or soothing his temperament with a little repetition. With a bouncy energy, his hair seems to follow his movement, bounding after him in a hairstyle that seems better dated to the Fifties.
Seth’s quirky appearance does nothing for stereotypes, for his look suggests a librarian thrown together with mod, and topped off with geeky aspects. He quite happily flaunts a look that not only suggests he got dressed in the dark – but while locked in a costume designer’s closet.
With a chiseled, strong face and stern jawline, he initially seems quite grave, but any such notion is immediately ruined whenever he gives one of his candid grins. He seems harmless enough, with a slightly hunched posture that gives off an insecure air that wouldn’t be far from the truth.
Personality:
You’d say never judge a book by its cover, but Seth is exactly as he looks - and one can be sure that Seth is very much a musty, dog-eared encyclopedia that’s been thumbed through one too many times. Intellectual, but to the point of being too factual, perhaps it’s unsurprising Seth can be a little socially awkward. Bumbling and earnest, Seth is a sincerely good-hearted fellow, if a little wrong-footed at times.
Seth doesn’t see himself as a geek, but he would happily notice the trait in others. That being said, he’s not very good at reading people, which isn’t very helpful for a journalist.
On paper, Seth is an elaborate wordsmith, with elegant linguistic skills, but when it comes to getting the information out of people, Seth has often put his foot in his mouth and has had quite a few people storm off from his interviews. It can’t be said that Seth isn’t a grafter, as he works very hard for a job he genuinely loves, but unfortunately he isn’t very good at it.
Powers:
As a late developer to his powers, Seth is still trying to get used to his strange mutation. He has the ability to retract the moisture out of any object, reducing it to nothing but dust. Unfortunately, this power also works on himself, which spells trouble for this bumbling bookworm.
History:
Born in Edison, Ohio to two mutant parents, Seth was always expected to develop a mutation at some stage. His parents eagerly were anticipating his powers, so were disappointed when he clearly passed through puberty without any hint of a gift. With parents even quirkier than himself, his childhood was certainly an interesting one. They had so much charisma that he believes he was constantly outshone and he never quite came out of his shell when he was a teenager. His older brother, Gavin, who is also a mutant, developed his powers when he was fifteen, and as a result, Seth has always felt slightly jealous of him.
After spending a childhood being hidden in the shadows of his parents and brother, it wasn’t until Seth reached university that his personality began to branch out. And, surprise surprise, he found he was just as eccentric as the rest of his family.
It wasn’t until Seth was 26 that he realised just how true to them he was, as he finally showed signs of a mutation. Now he has fashioned an fairly simple life for himself as a New York journalist, Seth doesn’t know quite how to handle his new powers and he’s still trying to keep them quiet from the newspaper he works for – somehow, he doesn’t think they’d appreciate it.
