Occupation: Currently unemployed. Was previously military liaison to the MBI, having being forced out of his army role during the deployment of the army to oversee the city during the height of the Legacy Virus. He is a former military instructor at West Point Academy, New York.
Hair: Dark brown
Eyes: Light Blue
Height: 6’
Build: Muscular
Appearance: Ticking all the boxes of the romantic cliché, Jack really is tall, dark and handsome. With a broad-shouldered posture and well-defined facial features, it's not difficult to see why so many have fallen for Jack's charms. Now out of UNIT, his attire has changed to suit his more relaxed lifestyle. He no longer wears the smart, sharp attire of shirts and braces and instead adopts a more casual look of t-shirts and jeans.
Personality: Since battling with depression and the loss of his taskforce, for a time, Jack lost his old ways as he became reserved and full of anger for the world. More recently, things have been looking up for him, and the old Jack is coming back. He's much more light hearted nowadays, often smiling and willing to have a joke and even still opts for some harmless flirting despite being married. Jack's not entirely grasping the concept of married life, and has a long way to go before he becomes the perfect husband, (which is most likely impossible.) However, his affection for his family is clear, even if he shows it less conventionally. However, Jack's more open than he used to be, and as a result of this is more accepting of new people, since he no longer has to be secretive and hide his identity from the world. Though happier than he used to be, he is by no means completely recovered, and still suffers from his down days. He's liable to stress when things get too difficult, and despite the changes made in his life, it always remains a danger that he might revert to his old behaviour. Though generally a friendly man, there's an undeniable darker streak within him, and at times it can make him quite simply, somewhat of a bastard, even to those he is close to. He is known for his temper when pushed, but realises he no longer has any real authority in the world, nor in his ex-team members, despite the fact they seem to remain loyal to his word.
Powers: Heightened senses give Jack supreme enhancements in his vision, hearing and sense of smell. His sight enables him to see across further distances than a normal human and in much more intricate detail, as well as granting him perfect clarity in darkness. He can hear sounds across sizeable distances with increased volume, which also grants him the ability to hear much more in his surrounding environment, such as the sound of a heartbeat. His sense of smell is as acute as a bloodhound's, and can easily recognise and track a scent. These heightened perceptions skills enable him to be a lethal marksman and a master of stealth, also granting him split-second reflexes and impressive agility and balance.
Affiliation: Previously captained troops in Afghanistan and Iraq before his resignation from the U.S Army. Previously led UNIT, a secret mutant organisation formed seven years ago by Jack. Using his skills as a trained soldier, Jack had built a tight-knit, highly trained military taskforce. UNIT had recently formed an alliance with the X-Men, but Jack sees the Brotherhood as nothing but glorified terrorists. Jack formally disbanded UNIT on 20th November '07 after suffering a loss of the team during a devastating battle.
Background: Jack grew up as an only child in a poor neighbourhood in Illinois. Whilst his father had a job, they struggled by on a low income because his mother was too sick to work. The terminal illness finally killed his mother when he was twelve, leaving him alone with his father (and also triggering his mutation.) For the next few years, they continued to struggle by, Jack not quite realising the severity of the impact his mother's death had had on his father, who tried several unsuccessful suicide attempts throughout Jack's teenaged years, notably by attempted overdoses on his dead wife's medical pills - all this of which, for the most part, was hidden from Jack until he got older and began to realising how much trauma his father was managing to keep behind a daily façade. However, once aware, Jack was able to help his father through his difficulties, and felt confident enough to leave at 18 to join the U.S Army (it was nigh impossible for his father to afford a college education.)
Jack was well trained and became part of the lesser-known mutant regiment. Whilst he was a fine soldier and an exemplary fighter, mutants within the army were viewed as the lowest rank and frequently mistreated.
In July 2000, after almost five years, Jack quit the Army, fuelled by the injustice and anger. He began his one-man campaign to right the wrongs for mutant kind. However, he had returned from overseas to discover his father's depression had grown worse during his absence.
It was a few months later that Jack met Link, and he was arrested for trying to access locked files, Link, a worker from the Government cleared his entire record and wiped him from all databases. When Jack was freed from lack of evidence, Link joined his cause and they began to form what to this day is known as UNIT.
However, whilst Jack was in the country, he could not be there every second with his father, and had to rescue him out of a few desperate suicide attempts when his father contacted him for help. Unfortunately, Jack had only been back home in America for less than a year when his father eventually successfully ended his life, leaving Jack with no approachable relatives and only his determination for UNIT. To this day, Link does not realise the events that happened during her first year with Jack.
After spending two years working alongside Link, they had started somewhat of a relationship. It was hardly official, and on his behalf was mostly a friendship that centred around sex. Even with Link, Jack did not consider themselves partners, and still went out to Hellfire, flirting and even sleeping with other people. After a year of this, during their latest project, they got themselves wrapped up in a mission that was too big for them to handle and resulted in Link being captured against her will and submitted to experimentations. Though Jack managed to free her, her capturer, Essex, erased himself from their minds. Jack got Link home safely, but the damage had already been done, and Link was suffering as a result of the experiments she had gone through. In a reckless bid of desperation, Jack drugged her with a pill that was supposed to erase the past month from her memory. However, they were not used to these new drugs, and Jack accidentally overdosed her, removing four years worth of memory.
When she woke, she had no recollection of Jack, and instead of revealing his error, Jack decided to play along with the act, as though he had found her like that. It was only now that he realised Link and their relationship had meant more to him than he thought, and that he had been taking what they had for granted. Still, it was too late, and their relationship remained a platonic working partnership. Jack reverted back into his old ways in light of this, back to treating relationships casually and never looking for something long term.
During the next five years, UNIT went from strength to strength, with more members being recruited and the team finally getting a base of operations (the Station,) which exists to this day.
There was a violent and overwhelming battle in November 2007, after which the team was officially disbanded and scattered across the globe, at least, those who survived the final fight. Since the disband, Jack sank into depression and almost lost his life in what had been an averted suicide attempt. He was hit by a car after falling from Brooklyn Bridge, and spend the Christmas in intensive care. Though having been previously shunned, Link came to his side when he recovered in hospital. Over the following months, he moved into her apartment to try and give their relationship another try, particularly with a baby now on the way. However, they landed in trouble again when a taskforce not unlike their own tracked them down. They were humans, and wholly against UNIT and everything they stood far, but wanted to confiscate their technology and amenities and use them for their own case. Jack, Link and Valerie were kidnapped, and kept jailed for a month till they escaped amidst explosions in early May and made a run to Xavier's Institute for shelter.
During his time at Xavier's, he became engaged to Link, though accidentally, as there had been no real proposal initially, and merely a case of misunderstanding between the pair before he decided they should do it anyway. Their daughter, Isabel, also arrived into the world, and a few months later Jack found himself a well-paying job at West Point Academy, a training school for the US Army, at which he is a military instructor. They were married on the 6th December 2008, and have a new home in Peekskill, Westchester.
Other:
- His preferred weapons of choice is a Beretta 92FS and an M4 Carbine, which are currently in use in the US armed forces.
- Two years after he left the army, he had small parts of his memory removed by the man who captured Link. Jack remains unaware of the details of this amnesia.
- Jack has a collection of medals from his time serving in the army, which include: Soldier's Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Meritorious Service Medal and a Purple Heart.
- During the November '07 battle, Jack was cured. His powers have since returned.
- Jack has been diagnosed as suffering from MDD. (Major Depressive Disorder.) He has since come off medication, and is showing signs of progress.
- Jack wiped his own memory purposely during a time when he was in deep depression. He has recently learned of this.
- Dogs, collars, and any treatment to him akin to that of a dog seems to have a bad effect on Jack. He was tortured at the ARC facility with an ultrasonic training collar.
- Jack's medical and police records have been reinstated for a second time since escaping the ARC facility in May 2008.
