Full name: Emily Walton (previously Austen)
Alias: N/A
Nicknames: Em, Red.
Age: 33
Birthday: 11th December 1977
Family:
Ex-Husband – Theo Austen
Son – Harry Austen
Daughter – James Austen
Father – Howard Walton
Mother – Cassie Walton
Sister – Bonnie Walton
Notable Relationships:
Ex-boyfriend – Jack Richards
Marital Status: Divorced
Hometown: Sycamore, Illinois.
Appearance: With flame-red hair, blue eyes and an enviably curvaceous figure, Emily knows how to make herself noticed when she walks into a room, but equally, she can withdraw from it without regret. She comes from a teenage-hood of being embarrassed about her unorthodox figure, which meant tears, tantrums and a lot of diets. It was only as she came into her adult life that she began to be proud of the way she looked, and as a result her personality flourished.
At home, she’s happy to be dowdy and dull, and she likes nothing more than lounging around in old clothes and having downtime with her family. But after joining a wealthy family, when Emily understands the importance of dressing well and making sure that she’s the woman people are going to pay attention to.
Personality: With a personality that’s as fiery as her hair, Emily is known to be a passionate soul. She puts all her heart into her endeavours, which means she can be equally crushed if things fall through. Her fiery zest makes for a quick temper, however, and she rarely backs off from a cause she believes in, even if that’s a simple case of who’s turn it is to do the washing up.
Emily finds it easy to become attached to people and equally difficult to lose others. She doesn’t fare well by herself, which is why she thinks the only reason she’s coping now is because she has her children.
Powers: Emily is human.
History: Born to Howard and Cassie Walton, Emily enjoyed a relatively happy up-bringing in a family-run farm outside Sycamore, Illinois. With a sister seven years her junior, she’s been used to taking the lead for most of her young life, with an age gap big enough for them to not reach milestones too close together – saving a lot of teenage drama.
Emily had been quite a reserved child at school, and even when she became a teenager, she lacked confidence. She rarely talked to boys, which was why she was genuinely shocked when at 14 she found herself a boyfriend in fellow student Jack Richards. Although he was one of the quieter ones, he was popular simply for his enthusiasm for sports – meaning she was introduced to a group of people she would normally never have dared to talk to.
Although young and inexperienced, Emily would’ve happily called him the love of her life, until at 18, he joined the army, leaving her to try and carry on with her life without him by her side. Shortly after his departure, they amicably decided to end their relationship.
From here, Emily concentrated her efforts on college and was able to focus herself into a course that she’d enjoy. Studying agriculture and groundskeeping, her affection for the outdoors became the foundations of a landscaping career that she thrives on to this day.
In 2000, Emily met Theo Austen while doing some work for one of her wealthier clients. She fancied herself a country-bumpkin kind of girl, lost in the big cities of Illinois. She would never have expected the son of a wealthy family to show any interest in her. Straightforward and assertive, Theo ensured to charm her from the moment they met, and Emily fell very hard, very quickly.
By 2002, they were married, and in 2003, Emily gave birth to their first child, Harry. Three years later, their daughter James joined the family, but her arrival wasn’t enough to repair the cracks that was starting to form over their marriage.
They argued more than even, always seeming to find differences that would upset her. Their conflicting tempers and bitter rows led Emily to fear they had pushed too fast with their relationship, as they had become engaged within a year of meeting, and tried for a baby as soon as they were married.
In the end, they both decided to call it quits before they destroyed each other emotionally, and in 2007 they divorced citing irreconcilable differences. Emily was granted primary custody of their children, thankfully without a violent battle, and was entitled to a settlement from Theo’s considerable wealth.
As the years unfolded, Emily grew used to living without a man in her life, and now juggles her work with being a (relatively) single mother. Theo is able to take care of the children at the weekend, giving her the time she needs to focus on her upcoming business.
