Full name: Erik Magnus Lensherr
Alias: Magneto
Birthday: December 15th
Hometown: Berlin, Germany
Appearance: Tall and generally imposing, Erik's most striking features are his eyes that, since childhood, have burned with hate behind the cool blue. With high cheek bones and a defined jawline, Erik grew from a handsome young man into an older man whose experiences read on his imposing features.
Personality: Known the world over for his merciless approach to fulfilling his goals, Erik is a cold individual who tries to hide his selfish impulses under his more noble endeavors. He has no real loyalty, even to those who remained loyal to him, too absorbed with ideas of vengeance and retribution. Erik is still human, despite how much he would argue against the fact, and thus is not incapable of more sensitive emotions.
Powers: Erik's powers allow him to control electromagnetic fields, mainly to manipulate magnetism and metals.
History: Erik was born in Berlin, Germany where he lived the first years of his life in poverty, though remained fairly happy as the family loved one another. When Nazism began to sweep Western Germany, Erik and his family fled to Poland to escape persecution but were eventually captured. When guards at the concentration camp the Lensherrs were taken to tried to separate Erik from his parents, the boy's mutant powers triggered and he bent a metal gate out of shape, observed by Dr Klaus Schmidt, who would later be known as Sebastian Shaw. Shaw took an interest in the young mutant and demanded a demonstration of his powers on a coin. When Erik could not make the object move at will, Shaw had Erik's mother killed and the distraught teenager's powers killed several guards and destroyed the room. In that moment, Erik swore to learn to control his powers so that he could take his revenge on Shaw.
Freed at the end of the war, Erik spent his time doggedly hunting Shaw. When he eventually tracked down the man he sought, Erik came off the worst against the power-absorbing mutant and almost drowned before being saved by Charles Xavier. Taken to join CIA's Division X, Erik and Charles formed a firm bond and begin building up a team of talented mutants to tackle Shaw. They learn of Shaw's plans to start a new world war and bring mutants to supremacy, a plan that strikes a cord with Magneto, though he cannot forgive his parents' murderer. As the mutant group moved to Xavier's mansion for training, Erik's desire to see mutants ascend humans grew quietly, unchecked by those around him. Around this time, Erik gained the trust of the shapeshifter Mystique, beginning a romantic attachment that would allow him to exploit her uses.
In a stand-off between Xavier and Lensherr's team and Shaw, Erik seized Shaw's telepathy blocking helmet that would later became his own statement piece. Killing Shaw by forcing a nazi coin through the man's head to avenge his mother, Erik invoked the fear of the human military. As they tried to attack the mutants, Erik did his best to blow them out of the sky, only just stopped by Xavier. As Moira MacTaggert shot at the power-absorbed Erik, Xavier was shot in the cross-fire and left paralyzed. Fleeing with some of the mutants, including Mystique, Erik fashioned himself as 'Magneto' and began his Brotherhood of Mutants with a goal of mutant domination.
Travelling the world for years to build his group and establish himself, Erik came across the gypsy known as Magda with whom he had a brief affair before she fled, scared of Magneto's abilities. Unbeknownst to him, Magda had been pregnant when she abandoned him and in turn abandoned the twins she bore, the two eventually fostered by the Maximoff family.
Magneto's powers and influence grew for years as he began to formulate his master plan for mutant supremacy, occasionally crossing paths with Xavier and his newly created X-Men. Though the two friends disagreed to the very core with their ideology, their respect for one another remained. As the momentum ramped up behind the Mutant Registration Act, egged on by Senator Robert Kelly, Magneto knew it was time to act. For years he had been working on his radiation machine to mutate the DNA of human beings and now had the perfect platform to debut it on. When he nearly died trying to power his machine, Magneto sought an alternative way to achieve his ends, eventually finding a young mutant named Rogue whose powers would allow him to power the machine without personal risk. The X-Men were able to foil Magneto's plans however and he was thrown in Stryker's plastic prison, subject to interrogation that would lead the mutant hater to Xavier and Cerebro.
Mystique was eventually able to break Magneto out of the prison and he joined forces with the X-Men to locate Stryker. Magneto's intentions were less honest than the X-Men's though and he again tried to wipe out the humans, escaping with his mission unsuccessful but with a new recruit from the mansion, Pyro, in tow.
When the mutant cure appeared, Magneto sought new recruits for his ever-expanding Brotherhood. In the pursuit of such a goal, Mystique had the cure forced on her and Erik abandoned her now she was no longer a mutant. In a battle at Alcatraz Island, following Magneto's destruction of the San Fransisco bridge, the Brotherhood were forced to retreat and disband by the X-Men's defence of the humans and Erik was shot with the cure.
Disappearing off the grid, Magneto's powers eventually returned but by now his Brotherhood were scattered across the globe. Feigning a change of heart after the experience with the cure, Erik approached Xavier to secure a teaching place at the mansion. Here he planned to corrupt the students and rebuild his Brotherhood from the slowly expanding student body. His first recruit was, to his own surprise, Rogue whom he managed to manipulate into forgiving his earlier actions. The pair developed a romantic interest but Erik was forced to flee when his true intentions became too much for Xavier to ignore, leaving Rogue pregnant with a daughter she would later miscarry.
Since leaving the mansion, Magneto has again been travelling the world, building connections and keeping occasional tabs on his Brotherhood under Rogue's control.
