Full name: Katherine ‘Kitty’ Pryde
Alias: Shadowcat
Age/DOB: Twenty | April 23rd, 1992
Hometown: Deerfield, Illinois
Appearance: Kitty stands at a short, five foot and two inches and has a thin frame with toned muscles thanks to years of ballet classes. She rarely puts on make up and has a fairly lazy sense of dress; mostly just tees, sweaters, and jeans thrown on together without much thought. Kitty has brown eyes and equally brown hair, which she has recently chopped off in order to wear in a low maintenance pixie cut. However when her hair was worn longer, Kitty would typically toss it back into a messy ponytail or bun.
Personality: Kitty is a very chatty, friendly, and outgoing individual. However she can also be somewhat awkward when placed in large social groups of strangers, or when around someone whom she finds attractive. She tends to talk faster the more excited she gets about a subject, and also has the habit to become easily emotionally invested as well as attached.
Powers: Kitty possesses the ability to pass through solid matter by passing her atomic particles through the spaces between the atoms of the object through which she is moving. This is called ‘phasing’ and while Kitty is in her phased state, she’s considered to be completely intangible to physical touch. However, Kitty can only remain phased through an object for as long as she can hold her breath, seeing that she can’t breath in her intangible state. The use of her abilities also interferes with any electrical systems due to the fact that it disrupts the flow of electrons. Kitty can also phase other objects and people, as long as they maintain physical contact with her. However the large the person/object, the more strain it causes on herself.
History: Katherine Pryde was the first and only child to be born to Carman and Theresa Pryde, residents of Deerfield, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago. Growing up, Kitty lived a very typical albeit boring life. She attended ballet classes since she was five, got in trouble for talking back to her parents, and always had to get her homework done when she got home from school, before she was allowed to do anything else. Kitty attended the local high school where she excelled in her science, math, and computer courses, where as anything to do with art or English left much to be desired.
When Kitty was thirteen, she began to get terrible migraine headaches. They would leave her confined to her bed, her room dark with the blinds drawn, and the pain so bad that it left her sick to her stomach. They lasted for a year, coming on for no reason and leaving almost as suddenly as they came. Carman and Theresa took their daughter to every doctor within the Chicago area. No one could come up with a cause or a cure for Kitty’s headaches.
It was during one specifically terrible headache that Kitty was tossing and turning in her bed, her eyes clenched shut as she wished that the pain would just go away. And then, as if by magic, the pain did vanish. Kitty opened her eyes, and was surprised to discover that she was no longer in her bed, in her room, but instead on the floor of the living room; the room that happened to be directly under her bedroom.
After a few more incidents of Kitty seemingly ‘falling’ through the floor into the room below, her parents caught on to their daughter’s new ability. The headaches went away, but the phasing began. Again they sought out doctors, which is how they were referred to the Xavier Institute in Westchester, New York. Kitty at first threw a fit; she didn’t want to be taken away from her friends and family. She didn’t want to leave Illinois to attend a boarding school for ‘freaks’ many states away. But her parents agreed; this was the best place for the daughter. She could continue her education, learn control over her abilities, and hopefully have a somewhat normal life with individuals who were just like her. Even Kitty’s most dramatic teenaged hissy fit couldn’t persuade the Pryde’s minds.
It took Kitty a total of two days to adjust to the idea of living in Westchester. The library, computer lab, and a cute, tall Russian by the name of Piotr convinced her to stay. It wasn’t too long before Kitty became very attached to the Xavier Institute as well as both the teachers and pupils who lived and attended it. However, living at the mansion proved to be a lot more exciting than Kitty’s life back in Deerfield.
Over the years of Kitty living at the mansion, she was trained in combat, took lessons on how to fly a jet, chased out of bed in the middle of the night by camouflaged soldiers, fought in battle on Alcatraz Island, and witnessed the head teacher and principal of the school , as well as another teacher die only to resurrect months later after their own respectful deaths.
Despite all the adventure, action, and danger of attending school at the Xavier Institute, Kitty’s parents remained (somewhat) blissfully unaware of their daughter’s ‘extracurricular’ activities, thus allowing Kitty to continue to attend school there. After graduation, she hardly wanted to leave. So Kitty stayed on as a teacher’s aid as she also took classes at Brown University.
