Appearance: Standing at five foot seven, Lou is around the average height for a woman. Her hair is naturally blonde and wavy, running passed her shoulders, and her eyes are a little confusing to describe at times looking silver, but they are really a very light, icy blue. She's rather slender and toned and has a fashion since that doesn't really correspond with what's in. Lou rather dresses her part, rather it be casual or business-like.
Personality: Family is first, always has been and always will be. Lou dotes on her siblings as if they were her own children, worrying over them and making sure their personal lives are content enough. She's a friendly woman, but ever since her husbands death she has been more hesitant. She's definitely not opposed to violence as she once had been, and like the rest of her siblings can be quite a fighter when the time calls for it.
Powers: Through touch and concentration, Lou can cancel out the X gene by absorbing the powers of others into herself. She can then bestow them upon mutants and humans alike. She has only ever been able to carry around five mutations at a time. Depending on there strength she can either hold onto them safely or they can make her extremely tired, once to the point that she went into a coma. Lou cannot use these abilities that she absorbs, she can only take them and give them to others.
History: Sonya Davis came from a family of mutants in Louisiana. She was seventeen when her parents died under mysterious circumstances. Prepared for something like this, Sonya made her escape before she could be taken in by Child Services. She never stayed in one place too long and as soon as she was eighteen she started to slow down and appreciate the sights she came across. She worked in diners and bars all over the country, saving up money for a passport so she could travel the world. When she finally had enough she went to Paris, then Italy, Greece, and England.
It was in London that Sonya met Philip Langdon, a college grad with a degree in genetics and molecular biology. He was the smartest person she ever met, and even with their age difference, they became fast friends. Philip helped her discover more about her mutation and Sonya helped him become more free-spirited. They leveled each other out nicely, and soon became intimate. The wedding was a small affair at his parents estate. While the Langdon's didn't approve of Sonya, they saw how happy she made their son.
Just as Sonya grew pregnant, Philip got a job offer in America at Boston University. It was too good to pass up, so the newlyweds moved to Massachusetts and settled down in a nice home with lots of rooms. Sonya was determined to fill every room with a child and she nearly did.
Louisiana, more notably called Lou, was named after her mothers home state and was the first born out of out of five, followed by Phoebe, Edythe, Jarvis, and Gemma. Growing up in a large house with a scientist/professor for a father and a hippie-like mutant mother, the Langdon children were brought up a little differently. Family always came first, and if you had a mutation you didn't tell a single soul, unless it was your soul-mate. Education was also a big role, and Philip made sure his children were bilingual, in order for them to have many future prospects.
Lou was thirteen when her mutation was triggered, she was upset with her younger sister, Edythe, as the eight year old kept on tantalizing her. Trying to find a safe place to hide away from her monster of a sister, she hid in her parents bedroom. Sonya came in and started to cuddle her, telling her it was only natural that siblings squabbled, or so she read. Then Sonya gasped and Lou felt her heart beat rapidly in her chest, her body humming, as she soaked up her mothers abilities. Wide eyed, she watched her mother try and grasp her breathe, a hand over her heart. With a shaky smile, Sonya told her it would be okay. Then started to help Lou control it and eventually give her mother back her powers.
As the years went on, it was noticed that Phoebe wouldn't be inheriting the mutant gene. However, the year Lou graduated from High School, Edythe came into her powers, by jump starting their little brother, Jarvis', mutation prematurely at eleven years old. With help from their father, it was discovered that Edythe could bring out the latent powers in mutants and Jarvis could sense and recognize others like him. It wouldn't be until he got older that his tracking abilities excelled.
When it came time for Lou to go to college, instead of staying in Boston like her parents wanted her to, she left for London. Attending Middlesex University and studying English Lit. It wasn't long before she met Henry Lewis. He was a couple years older than her and while she was trying to get her Bachelors, Henry was working on his Masters degree in Educational studies, and was a part time substitute teacher. They became quick friends and Lou moved in with him to save some money. Along the way a romantic relationship bloomed between Henry and Lou.
During the start of her second year at uni, Lou got a devastating phone call. There had been a fire and her parents hadn't made it. Her mother's best friend, another mutant and a lawyer, had been the beneficiary over her parents will. All of the money had been put into a Swiss bank account in Zurich, to which Lou had to make a trip in order to sign papers. Then, her sibling were to be shipped out to England since her parents had put them in her care.
Living in a small one bedroom apartment was hectic when there were six inhabitants. So, for the first time, Lou transferred some money from Zurich to London. Then came time to find a house, both Lou and Henry thought it would be best for the kids to choose the place. And with their pact to stay together no matter what, Phoebe, Edythe, Jarvis, and Gemma picked out the biggest and most expensive home. However, money was no object and it was only a thirty minute commute to campus.
When Gemma came into her powers at thirteen years old, Lou thought that Phoebe might become a little jealous, what with being the only human amongst the siblings. Lou underestimated her sister. Phoebe was as sweet and kind as ever. Her heart was pure and she never let the fact that she was the only human affect her.
At twenty-three, Lou was working at a small bookstore and had a protruding belly. She married Henry in the garden with the only guests being her siblings and Mary, her mothers friend from Boston. Lou went into labor five hours after the ceremony and gave birth to a daughter, Murphy Gwyn Charleston Pernel Lewis, born July 31st, 2000.
It was around this time that Edythe came out of the closet, letting her family know that she wasn't into boys. And that she had a girlfriend. However, Edythe wasn't one to hold onto relationships for long and so she never brought anyone to the house.
Two years later, August Frederick Alaric Langdon Lewis (a son), was born. The arrival of another child made the house more lively. And Jarvis dropping out of college in the first week brought in a little heat. Lou was furious with him. Jarvis was a player with women and a bit of a scrapper, always looking for a fight – whether in pubs or on the street. Lou was worried for him. Right until he came up with the family business with Edythe backing him up. For a hormonal eighteen year old, Jarvis was smart. Not nearly as smart as their father, no. Jarvis wasn't book smart, he was street smart and Edythe had the business hand of things.
It wasn't safe, almost stupid. But then Henry encouraged her, telling her that she should use her abilities to 'help' people, even if they were charging their customers a hefty sum. So, Lou signed for a space with a large back room and an upstairs. With the front being a cover for a bookstore, Lewis Books. Most people came in just to get books and slowly word reached the mutant community and soon enough they were bringing customers into the back. And for security reason they all changed their names. Lou as Ana Lewis, Phoebe as Piper. Edythe as Erika. Jarvis as Gerry. And Gemma as Josie.
Many mutants didn't like what they were and just wanted to be rid of their powers, so Lou would absorb them. Coming to find that she could only hold around five abilities safely without going into a coma. But it did all depend on the strength of the mutation. Then, mutants wanted to switch their powers for a better one. And Lou could only offer what she had on hand, giving them a pick. Mutant parents would come to see if their children had the gene and sometimes Edythe would be brought in to jump start abilities.
Things seem to be going good and Lou gave birth to a third child, another daughter, Iverson Priscilla Eliza Odette Lewis. With the shop hopping with both types of customers, it was hard to see how anything could go wrong. Iverson was only a year old when Henry was attacked on his way home from work.
A group of mutants who believed that Lou and her siblings were messing with the natural order of things, had beaten him within an inch of his life and he was barely holding on. The family had arrived just in enough time to say goodbye. Henry made Phoebe, Edythe, Jarvis, and Gemma promise to stay with Lou. She needed her family, they needed to stick together – to stay safe. Phoebe and the rest of the siblings stayed outside the room with the kids, so Lou could say goodbye to her husband. It was tearful and there were many I-love-you's and please-don't-leave-me's. But one of the mutants had electrocuted him and there wasn't enough time to save his failing heart. She laid with him for what seemed like hours, snapping at every hospital worker that came in. Henry had been gone for a while, but she didn't want to leave him.
Finally, Phoebe came in and told her it was time to go. Jarvis and Gemma had taken the kids home, and Edythe had taken care of the paper-work. Phoebe herself would be sorting out all the funeral plans, because once upon a time her and Henry had had a rather morbid talk about caskets and cremation.
After the funeral, Jarvis disappeared for a few days with the promise of meeting up in Munich, the birthplace of their paternal grandmother where a house was waiting to be lived in. When Jarvis finally arrived, Lou didn't have to ask where he had been. She saw the gun and the knives. Her brother had always thought of Henry has his brother, he'd been the only other male role model after their father died, and in his eyes the mutants who killed his brother-in-law deserved death.
Growing up, the siblings had been taught a couple languages, German being one, so it was easy to acclimate to their new life in Germany. While it was hard to go on without Henry, Lou got a job at Hanser Publishers. Phoebe was glad to stay home with the children and home school them. Edythe was studying German law, but she occasionally worked part time at a gun range. Jarvis was happy to work as a bartender and even got a job at the same gun range as Edythe, just to bug her. And Gemma went on to study Philosophy at Munich University.
It was in college that Gemma met Derek Sorenson, an American who came to Germany to study biology. It was seven months before the siblings allowed Derek into their home, always meeting him for dinner in the city. And as a year went on it wasn't a surprise to Lou when Derek proposed to Gemma. Derek was happy to move in with them and while their situation might have freaked anyone else out, he respected their family values.
It wasn't easy for Jarvis to warm up to him, but eventually him and Derek became shooting pals. And much to everyone's relief, Derek didn't seemed to mind that Jarvis wasn't exactly an upstanding citizen.
Life in Germany was calm, even when Jarvis came home blood and smiling, still hyped up on adrenalin from some fight. It wasn't a big shocker that when Murphy turned eleven, her mutation manifested. Jarvis had told Lou he sensed the gene, so it was only a matter of time after she hit puberty. And a tad similar to the rest of her family, Murphy's mutation allowed her to copy mutations and use them for a minimal amount of time.
As 2012 came along, and another year passed, the Langdon-Lewis-Sorenson household grew nervous. One day everything was fine and then the next, Edythe woke up with a years worth of memories missing. Becoming rather paranoid, the family packed up (even a very pregnant Gemma and Derek quit his job). With a private jet waiting for them they boarded a plane and headed to America.
Lou's mother had always told her that if there was ever a problem - one that couldn't be explained - go to New York. Sonya Langdon had never elaborated on what she meant, but Lou took her family to NYC and by the time they got there Mary had found them a place to live that was big enough for them all.
