Character Name: Alexis Jane Sullivan
Alias: Astral
Age: 23
Date of Birth: 20th October 1987
Hair: Multi-toned blonde, long and naturally curled.
Eyes: Blue-green
Height: 5' 6"
Family:
Father: Christian Sullivan, 47 (PB: Brendan Fraser)
An acclaimed palaeontologist, he currently works alongside research scientists and archeologists in the Academy of Natural Sciences, Philadelphia.
Mother: Julia Sullivan, 46 (PB: Sonya Walger)
A qualified paediatric nurse at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.
Son: Benjamin Stevens
Stillborn on 15th August 2010.
Powers: Alexis is able to form intense white light to blinding proportions, and control the energy into star-like bursts that are alive with heat. She herself is impervious to dangerous levels of heat and intensity of the energy, and can shroud her body in the light to give her a rather ethereal appearance. The light is produced by various forms of radiation, with the heat and intensity created by ultra-violet. As a result, exposure to Astral's light is potentially damaging to people's health, but the small rate she normally outputs would have such a small impact on other people's lifespan, that it'd be barely noticeable. It is not know how her powers affect her own lifespan.
Appearance: As a blonde-haired young woman; there's nothing about her given looks that make her instantly stand out from the crowd. That is, save for the white glow that radiates off her skin. Naturally, she always glows, but she can tone this down when in public. Clothing-wise, Alexis doesn't stick to trends as a rule and prefer a more unique appearance. However, she is more often than not wearing quite a relaxed, bohemian-chic style of dress, including muted, earthy tones. She can often go through girly phases, and enjoys clothes that make her feel comfortable and pretty. It's rare she intentionally flaunts her body, but sometimes naively manages this.
Personality: Typically, Alexis is a quiet girl who doesn't like to draw too much attention to herself. She has occasions where her shyness is overcome by her gentle nature and sense of humour, but she could never be bold and brash. She's very patient, one could say too much so, in the sense that others could use her for the seemingly endless serenity she has. She's naive, at times to a fault, for she is a very optimistic person in regards to practically anything. She's adamant that there's good in all, and is more often than not willing to give others the benefit of doubt. She's a kind soul with a calming influence, and it takes a lot for her to raise her voice even when upset. However, she can be hurt quite easily by others, especially when the rose-tinted glasses are off and people act in ways she's not anticipated. She all too easily believes everyone is as courteous and as pleasant as she is, and unfortunately, she doesn't react well when she discovers this often isn't the case.
History: Born to Julia and Christian Sullivan in Surrey, England, Alexis moved to America at the age of thirteen, but still retains most of her southern English accent. Her father, a successful palaeontologist, required the transferral across the Atlantic to further his career at the and they set up home in rather upscale neighbourhood of Philadelphia. He worked at the Academy of Natural Sciences and to this day continues to research and develop amongst a team of scientists. Her mother works as a visiting nurse and carer for the elderly, an occupation which would later influence Alexis' own choices.
Alexis was a reserved child, but always well-mannered and politely spoken which has remained natural to her to this day. It's a trait her parents have encouraged, particularly her mother. Her mutation manifested soon after she reached seventeen, after suffering Nyctophobia since her early childhood. The fear had lessened as she grew older, until on a weekend she spent home alone whilst her parents were on a business trip together. There was a black-out on the street that triggered her phobia into full form, and so her enlightening mutation.
Her parents were accepting of the fact their daughter was a mutant, so it wasn't them that gave her the drive to leave her home. Instead, after already being a person who was reserved and stuck to a few close friends, she felt even more seperated from her peers. The glowing nature of her powers remained an oddity amongst her classmates and after graduating flawlessly, she left to continue her higher education at Xavier's School for the Gifted. She graduated from Xavier's in July 2008, and was since faced with a choice to leave the mansion, or stay on and try to continue her life there. However, it seemed fate was out of her hands, and Astral slowly grew closer to John Allerdyce, whom she had met in March, despite how ill-matched their friendship seemed to be.
It was during the next few months that Astral began to steadily become more involved with the Brotherhood, unwittingly so, by spending more time with John at the headquarters. However, there was no turning back when she visited a mutant rally in Manhattan and ended up become one of the main attendants by aiding John in warding off protestors with her powers. They managed to flee both the police and the X-Men, and Astral had since been staying at the Brotherhood's old hotel, lying low and trying to recover from what had happened.
As time passed, Astral became considered part of the Brotherhood, and endured the trials they faced. Eventually, the team dispersed, and she opted to stick with John. As time passed, their growing relationship took more knocks, and despite coming through some of the difficulties, Astral ended the relationship ten months after it had began when she realised John would never be able to fully let go of his ex-girlfriend, Rogue.
She went to the only place that made sense, although not without some guilt. Eclipse willingly took her in, in spite of the bumps their friendship had taken due to John's jealousy. His support helped her to recover not only from her break-up with John, but also the blow to her confidence after the horrifying attack from Sabretooth that would've left her scarred for life without being healed by Dia Sanders.
It was only a few weeks after living with Eclipse that he decided to be up-front with his feelings about her and in the years that they had been friend, admitted he had grown fond of her during that time. Astral was tentative of a new relationship so soon, but slowly began taking the steps there. Over time, she felt much more secure with him now, despite her earlier doubts and a temporary hold on their relationship when she felt guilt over John.
Although her relationship with Eclipse has been for a much shorter period than she had with John, it has already developed much further, and Astral fully believes its due to her increased confidence in herself and the trust she's held in Eclipse for many years.
