Full name: Marta Baines-Willows, MD.
Alias: N/A
Age/DOB: Thirty | March 23rd, 1982
Hometown: Bristol, Rhode Island
Appearance: Due to her long hours at the hospital, Marta is often seen wearing scrubs, yet in her free time she enjoys to dress up in very feminine attire, mostly skirts and dresses. Her brown hair is cropped into a short pixie cut, which adds more of an‘edgier’ look to her very round, feminine face. She is of average height and weight.
Personality: Marta has what can only be described as a very ‘strong’ personality. She’s very intense, competitive, and has a fairly foul mouth. Despite this, she is a very caring and passionate individual, something that shows in her practice of medicine. She sometimes can care too much for her patients, which can take its toll on her nerves and emotions. Despite this, Marta tries to keep work separate from her personal life.
Powers: Marta is a telepath with the abilities to read an individual’s mind. However her powers are limited to the fact that she can only read another’s thoughts, and cannot put her own ideas into another person’s head or communicate with a non-telepath through their brains.
History: Marta Baines was the second born and only daughter born to Marcus and Lidia Baines, a senator and homemaker respectively. Marta, her parents, as well as her older brother Lewis had grown up in the seaside town of Bristol, Rhode Island. Her father was involved in politics; first local before he worked his way into becoming a senator for the state, while her mother donated her free time to a variety of boards and charities, most for the welfare of mutants, due to the fact that both Marcus and Lidia had siblings with mutant abilities, despite them being individuals. Despite the busy schedules Marcus and Lidia worked, they did their best to try and show up at the violin recitals, school debates, and field hockey matches that their children participated in.
Having a naturally round face, as well as childhood puppy fat that refused to budge in her teenaged years, Marta wasn’t one for social functions. She had friends of course; a core group of social misfits that simply didn’t fit in with their preppy, private school classmates, but Marta was hardly one that was about to be named prom queen. Instead her friends and herself studied at the lunch table, dressed as hobbits and wizards for get-togethers, and tried to create their own language. It was perhaps her peculiar social life that caused her to excel in school, constantly making the honor role and a solid 4.0 GPA.
At the age of seventeen, Marta began to have, what she feared was a psychotic breakdown. She was constantly hearing voices; ones that sounded familiar, as if she was suddenly privy to the thoughts of her fellow peers. Thankfully, with having a handful of mutant aunts and uncles, it was discovered that Marta simply had the ability of telepathy; she could read people’s thoughts. Working with a specialist, Marta did her best to try and control her powers, as well as blocking them out.
From an early age, Marta decided she wanted to become a doctor, and of course med school wasn’t easy to get into. However her hard work and prep school pedigree
helped to groom Marta into the perfect candidate to attend Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, especially once her telepathy was under control. She majored in biology, her eyes still fixated on to attend med school after gaining her bachelor’s degree.
And, of course Marta always stuck to whatever plan she had set for herself. After graduating with good grades and high recommendations from the staff of Carnegie Mellon, she was accepted into Weill Cornell Medical College, her intention to major in obstetrics and gynecology. Following her completion of medical school, Marta began to serve her residency at New York Presbyterian Hospital, where she just completed her residency the previous year.
Recently Marta has awoken, no memories of the past year, and stuck in a wedding dress at a fairly lavish party, besides a man in a suit whom she has no recollection of.
