Full name: Meriem Delagotha/Emma Drew
Alias: Viper
Age: 38
Birthday: March 10th 1974
Hometown: Prague, Czech Republic
Current Occupation: Acolyte
Appearance: Viper is athletically built, with a traditionally Eastern European colouring. Her naturally black hair was often dyed a dark green in her HYDRA days to match her abnormally coloured eyes. Not exactly lacking with her assets, Viper's naturally striking beauty makes her stand out of the crowd. Over the years, she had added to the brand on her back by having multiple snakes tattooed across her body.
Personality: In Viper's world, you had to be tough to survive and that is exactly how she is. Focused and strong to her very core, she does not suffer fools gladly. That being said, her recent defection from HYDRA has been to find at least a small amount of compassion in herself. Like her parents, any issue she believes in, she fights for passionately.
Powers: Viper's powers allow her to dispense a poisonous, dense vapour from her fingertips. As it is so thick, the vapour cannot travel far before it is diluted bybair and thus Viper must be touching, or almost touching, her victim for the poison to be absorbed into their skin. A small dose will cause nausea and headaches before prolonged exposure builds to a dibilitating fever, frothing of saliva, boiling of blood and eventually, death.
History: Born in communist Czechoslovakia to a Spanish father and Czech mother, Meriem Delagotha's childhood days were far from rosy and care-free. Her parents were militant anti-communist protesters, often in trouble with the law and on an extensive list of threats to the state. Because of this, the Delagothas lived under the radar, moving from squat to squat as they tried to avoid capture. While it would have made sense to keep their heads down, the couple continued to protest and fight, leaving their young daughter alone for hours in the various squats they called home. Meriem soon learned not to fear the dark or loneliness and built herself a thick skin to see her through the scary nights when outside she heard guns and shouting and there was no adult to protect her. It was only a matter of time before the life her parents led got the better of them and when Meriem was eight, they were both gunned down by police in a riot that they had been attending. Orphaned, and with no other family or friend to turn to, the young girl took to the streets to beg and steal, quickly adapting to life as a street urchin and learning to defend herself.
Around this time, a mutant known only as Kraken was travelling war-torn areas of the world, searching for young mutants to train into elite soldiers for the terrorist organisation, HYDRA. His powers allowed him to identify mutants before their powers ever triggered and this was how he found Meriem when she was aged just nine and showed no extraordinary traits except a unflinching resolution to survive. She was taken with a group of eleven other girls chosen by Kraken to a place far away from her bleak home town, where the sun beat down unrelentingly on the children as their training began. They were half-starved to encourage savagery at first, before rewards began to hone their skills into masterful displays. Half the girls died before their powers even showed, but Meriem proved herself a worthy soldier day after day. It was around this time that she began to use a new name for herself, spurned on by a mispronunciation of her given name by the other girls who called her Miri-A-m. Her name was all she had left of the parents she still loved deep down and so she began to call herself Em in a homage to their choice, eventually becoming known as Emma to most around her.
Aged sixteen, her powers revealed themselves in a duel with another of Kraken's chosen twelve, leaving her opponent dead. A delighted Kraken rechristened her Viper, but in HYDRA, baptisms were through fire, not water. Stripped down to the waist, she was held out as the organisation's logo was branded into her back with a flaming hot metal seal, leaving a scar that is still visible to this day. She was quickly sworn into the group's orders and sent on various missions, killing and stealing with unwavering loyalty to the group that had taken her in and raised her. She travelled the world, slowly gaining a collection of serpent tattoos to reflect her newly given name, that she later learned was also the mutant alias of another HYDRA member, far higher up in the ranks. Viper herself began to climb the ranks, gaining more power and more enemies with each day, but slowly, her faith in HYDRA began to falter. She began to question her missions and the life she had been thrust into. Though she would never admit it aloud, she began to mourn for the childhood she might of had as a normal girl, with laughter and friends and love. Resentment began to fester in her brain, slowly eating away at her.
It was five years before she decided to act. She had been sent on a mission to a largely barren piece of land with no more instructions than to do as Commander Kraken ordered. It was soon made clear that these orders were to find another 'batch' of children, twelve girls and twelve boys, to be subjected to the same torturous upbringing she had. At first she obeyed, but the memories of whippings and of children smashing each other's skulls into the ground became too much. In the dead of night she packed her belongings and released the children they had 'recruited' before she put a bullet through the spine of Commander Kraken as he slept. Using the alias of Emma Drew, she travelled to America where the newly developed mutant cure was making headlines. She stayed out of sight until the main battle had been fought and found the man they called Magneto as he pulled himself from the rubble. It was then that she approached him, with all her skills and experience, offering her loyalty, waiting for his powers to return. Her new goal was a world where mutants were not subject to the binds inflicted on them by humans, so that organisations like HYDRA could not steal them as children and train them into little more than machines.
When Magneto lied his way back into Xavier's school, Viper remained his contact in the outside world, waiting for the Brotherhood to be rebuilt. Magneto was chased out of Xavier's before it could return to its former glory, however, and she instead traveled the globe with him as the acolytes were formed.
