Full name: Robyn Rose Carnegie
Alias: N/A
Age: 52
Birthday: November 16th 1960
Hometown: Fremont, Nebraska
Current Occupation: Democratic Senator
Appearance: Not particularly tall, Robyn could have faded into the crowd with her pale skin and strawberry blonde hair. Instead she chose to dress and style herself to be noticed so is often seen in more eye-catching outfits than most politicians, teamed with heels to remove the idea of being towered over. Her hair falls naturally in waves but she now straightens it to remove too soft or feminine and image.
Personality: In her youth, Robyn was something of a hippy and a rebel but as she grew up, she developed more of a sense of responsibility and is now quite a serious person. She takes her job, and issues of mutantkind's safety, very seriously but would drop it all if she was needed with her daughter and grandchildren.
Powers: Robyn has the power of tactile telepathy, meaning that when she touches someone, she can see their most immediate thoughts and feelings. With prolonged contact, she can see deeper and access memories. For people she shares a blood relationship with, her power works in an entirely different way. Rather than seeing a family member's thoughts or feelings, she can instead influence them to her whim.
History: Robyn Rose was the second daughter born to Henry and Heather Thomas of Fremont, Nebraska, both upstanding citizens. Henry was a well respected local doctor while his wife, a homemaker, served on every school board and charity committee their neighbourhood offered. Their first daughter, Madeline, was four years old when her sister was born and was already an image of perfection. Madeline grew up pretty, well-behaved and gifted, leaving a mighty big shadow for Robyn to rebel in. The younger Thomas girl was smart but she preferred spending her days exploring the banks of the Platte River on the outskirts of town rather than sitting indoors and working on homework on piano practice. As the sisters grew, the difference only increased. Madeline became the apple of their parents' eye - an honor student, church volunteer, in before curfew every time; Robyn was not so well behaved.
Aged fourteen, Robyn became aware of her mutation. She had stormed out of the house following an argument with her sister who had decided to pass out some 'helpful advice' for her little sister that was little more than name calling. Sat with her friend on a bank behind the school to calm down, Robyn had touched her friend's skin as she passed a cigarette and was suddenly aware of the girl's most current thoughts. Over the next few weeks, she pieced together her skills and researched mutation, appalled to see how badly mutants were being treated around the world. Vowing to keep her skills a secret, she also resolved never to use her powers against her family for fear of something backfiring.
It was when Madeline left for college that Robyn started to truly rebel. She always missed curfew as she and her friends hung around the local Midland University, trying to hook up with college boys and get drunk. Her parents despaired, but Robyn was having fun. It was on one such night that she first crossed paths with Donald 'Don' Smith, who was at Midland studying criminal justice and chemistry. Robyn had been sat alone outside his dorm building, having been abandoned by her friends who had all hooked up with somebody, and Don spotted her. He realised quickly that she was not a student there, as she was only sixteen at the time, but they struck up conversation none-the-less. Don wasn't like the normal guys Robyn was attracted to; her type was normally the jock, the centre-of-attention muscular ass, but Don was a lot quieter and serious about his studies. For reasons she couldn't quite understand, she began to meet up with him more and more and the pair became very close, with Robyn even revealing her mutation to him.
She had just turned eighteen when she realised she was pregnant. Don had already turned her away from smoking and trying to score booze from college boys after a quick fumble but in parents' eyes she was still their bad child and she doubted her pregnancy would help. Still, she and Don decided they would see it through and keep their child. Robyn's parents didn't know what to think and kept their daughter under their roof as they tried to work it out. Before they could, they had a granddaughter and their hearts and anger melted. Robyn called the girl Avery Dahlia and resolved to be the best mother she could. Don was half-way through his degree and decided to remain in Fremont once he graduated to remain close to Robyn and Avery.
For the first year of her life, Robyn never let Avery out of her sight. With both her parents' working and Don in college, she was really the only person that was around and it began to give her cabin fever. Don noticed the change in the previously calm Robyn and so offered her a bit of time-out. Once he graduated, Don joined the local police force and took the swing shift, allowing Robyn to take college classes in the afternoon. They both got little sleep with the hectic schedule and Avery's care but they were content to both be able to do what they wanted with their lives and still care for their daughter. While her sister had disowned her, for the first time in her life, Robyn saw pride shining in her parents' eyes. Majoring in philosophy, Robyn became even more aware that there was a current building against mutants and it began to eat away at her. Don was the only person in the world who knew what she really was and she knew she risked a lot if she told anyone else. Silently seething, she started to make plans to do whatever she could to help mutants.
She earned her degree shortly before Avery's fifth birthday and began law school. It wasn't the country's most respected school by any means, but for Robyn, it was her ticket to government and being able to make laws that would help mutantkind. When Avery started school, Robyn got herself onto every school and charity committee going, making a name for herself in the right circles. Although she and Don had no plans to marry, she began using his surname and wearing a plain gold wedding band in the hopes of being more appealing to the more traditional families around her.
By the time she finished law school though, Robyn and Don had drifted apart. Deciding to end their relationship, they remained close friends and shared custody of Avery. Don moved into an apartment across town and Robyn kept the little townhouse they had recently moved to. Taking odd secretarial jobs for two years, she eventually earned herself a position as an Assistant District Attorney. She and Don often crossed paths through work and he encouraged her to run for the Nebraska Legislature. Four years later, she was elected and threw herself into her new job, subtly promoting equal rights bills that benefited mutants. Avery was getting older and Robyn worried about her job's effect on her daughter as it meant she was away from the house more often than she liked. Her daughter was a flower-child at heart and Robyn worried she would get herself involved with drugs. To try and stop any rebellious thoughts in her daughter, she did the one thing she swore she never would and used her powers to influence her daughter's moods. Always feeling guilty afterwards, Robyn would again use her powers to 'put back' the original ideas and now worries that her daughter's up and down mood swings are a result of this earlier tampering.
Robyn's term of office in the Nebraska Legislature ended the year before Avery was due to go to college and she decided not to run for another term. Avery had taken after her father and was an incredibly gifted student, earning herself a scholarship to Stanford University. Not wanting to be so far away from her only child, Robyn sold their home in Nebraska and moved to Palo Alto in California so she would be close by if Avery needed her. It was a big culture shock for Robyn but she took it all in her stride. She started to hear about underground mutant groups that met in the city and attended a few meetings, listening as they spoke about waging war on humanity and shared their horrific experiences. It was through these groups that she was first introduced to Magneto, a man whose name she had come across in her research. Her political background interested the Brotherhood leader and his general approach to mutant issues was something she too found intriguing. They maintained contact over the years but at first Magneto showed no interest in using her as a puppet.
In her above-board life, Robyn had begun a relationship with a man by the name of Matthew Carnegie. His family's influence was far-reaching in Washington and to Robyn, his life was exciting and he was charming. After just a year of dating, the pair married, shortly after Robyn's fortieth birthday. Don attended the wedding, as well as Avery who attended with her new boyfriend, Cameron Willows, in tow. As soon as Robyn shook hands with him, she was aware of his mutation and encouraged the relationship, if for slightly selfish reasons. She felt that if her daughter accepted Cameron for his mutation that she might be able to share her own with Avery. As Avery and Cameron grew closer, Robyn's own marriage only began to disintegrate. Matthew was self-obsessed and cared very little about anything outside his own golf-club worries, infuriating Robyn more and more each day. When she caught him cheating on her, she realised enough was enough and filed for divorce, making sure Matthew's infidelity was known so that her reputation would not suffer.
The divorce was finalized seven months before Avery and Cameron married so Robyn put on a brave face and refused to mope, helping her daughter with her wedding plans instead. Avery had decided to drop out of her masters following the wedding and while Robyn didn't like the decision, she was not worried as Cameron had a promising future ahead of him that could provide for the pair of them. The marriage was fast approaching it's third year, and Robyn had been blessed with two grandchildren, when she felt her life turn on it's head. While kissing Cameron goodnight on the cheek following dinner one evening, she became aware of her son-in-law's work on the mutant cure. She was heartbroken that the boy she had become so close with was involved with what she viewed as a heinous attack on their kind and knew she had to do something. As she and Cameron were not blood related, her only chance for influence was through Avery and so she made the difficult decision to turn her powers on her daughter once again.
Her plan had been for Avery to convince Cameron to turn away from his research, but a mix of bad timing and lack of knowledge on the workings of her powers on Robyn's part, she instead destroyed the couple's marriage and turned her daughter's intentions into those of a heartless materialist. Knowing she could not risk further interference, Robyn was helpless to watch as her daughter and Cameron divorced and his work on the cure hurtled forward. Realising she needed to fight for mutants now more than ever, Robyn ran for, and was elected to, the House of Representatives where she served a two-year term before moving back to Nebraska to be somewhat closer to both Avery in Canada and Cameron in New York.
In the recent elections, Robyn was elected as the Democrat's Senator for Nebraska and has relocated to Washington DC. Following the announcement of the mutant memory loss, she has taken David Greene's lead and followed to New York to closer monitor the actions of the MBI. She has been in contact with Magneto for the past couple of years, though has not actively passed him any information as of yet, though this may change with the chaos around them.
