Name: Magdalene 'Maggie' Charlotte Gleeson.
Alias: Verity.
Age: 23.
Birthday: 02/24/90.
Hometown: Castletownbere, Ireland.
Ethnic Background: Irish and Scottish.
Citizenship: Irish.
Religion: Non-Practicing Roman Catholic.
Family:
Thomas Daire Gleeson || Father 54
Fiona Marguerite Gleeson || Mother 52
Uri Thomas Gleeson || Brother 20
Talitha Rose Gleeson || Sister 18
Maureen Charlotte Kelly || Aunt
Appearance: Verity is rather petite and doll-like, slender and standing at only five foot three. She has a set of big blue eyes the shade of cerulean and brown hair that looks nearly auburn. When it comes to fashion, she's not really picky about what she wears and is prone to shopping at thrift stores.
Personality: Because she cannot lie, Verity is very honest and outspoken. Unable to even try and reign it in, no matter how bad. Even then, she's not one to be shy or sorry for what comes out of her mouth and because of this can seem pretty insensitive at times. However, she has random bursts of charity, such as giving her last dollar to a homeless person, and has a habit of not explaining her actions. Because of her strict childhood, it's very rare that you will hear a dirty word pass through her lips, even with her inability to lie, crude language just doesn't seem to be in her vocabulary.
Powers: Through eye contact or touch, Verity can force people to tell the truth. When contact is broken, the person is free to lie once again. She can also tell when a person is lying and is unable to lie herself. Finding it physically impossible.
History: Fiona Kelly and her family had moved to Ireland to get away from the mutant prejudice that had fallen onto Fiona's younger sister, Maureen. Usually quiet and reserved, it was a surprise to the Kelly's when Fiona fell in love with the local hot-head. Thomas Gleeson had followed into his fathers footsteps by becoming a fisherman, as most sons in Castletownbere were prone to do when fishing was the top economic activity. But, he had a mean streak that many people didn't want to come across. However, his anger seemed to elevate when he met Fiona, and three years later they married.
In 1990, Fiona gave birth to their first born; a girl they named Magdalene Charlotte. When Fiona first started dating Thomas she noticed that while an angry man, he was a religious one as well, and so she had focused on biblical names, however he had the final say. After Maggie was born, Thomas slowly started to become more irritated. Why wouldn't the baby stop crying? Why couldn't Fiona be a better mother and shut the child up? Finally, so she wasn't constantly around her husband, Fiona got a job at the local pub where her sister worked. Grateful that her new employers were sympathetic enough to let her bring Maggie to work, so she didn't have to leave her daughter with Thomas.
It was two years later that Fiona grew pregnant again and Thomas began sleeping around. She gave birth to a beautiful baby boy she named Uri Thomas, but her husband barely bat an eyelash. It was around this time that Maureen started urging her sister to get out of the relationship, but Fiona couldn't. She loved Thomas, she couldn't leave him; not now that she had had his children. When Thomas found out, he forbade Fiona to ever see Maureen again. Even the ultimatum didn't making her see the light and she listened to him.
Maggie was four years old when her little sister was born, Talitha Rose. She was like a doll and Maggie was always trying to play 'mommy' with her. As Maggie grew up, her father became more strict and her mother more subservient. It was hard to watch her mother flinch every time her father walked into a room. It was hard to even love her father when he constantly got on to them all about the littlest things and then proceeded to go to church and act like he was the perfect husband and father.
Maggie became her mother's number one support. Always helping her after Thomas hit her, getting dinner started incase she was caught up at work, making sure her siblings were bathed and in bed if an argument broke out... The list went on.
Maggie was thirteen, when her mutation was triggered. She had been doing her homework at the pub when a fight broke out and her mother urged her to get home. Racing through the front door, she was shocked into silence when she saw her father with another woman in the living room. Pissed off that the kids at school were right, she ran up the stairs to her bedroom and locked herself in.
It wasn't until dinner time that her brother came up to get her. Unable to meet her father's eye, Maggie pushed the food around her plate and listened to the mindless conversation around the table. Her mother was forcing a laugh at something her father had said, and she couldn't take another minute of it, throwing her fork on the table she blurted it out.
'Da's havin' an affair.'
A long silence followed, before her father stood up from the table and backhanded her, spitting at her that it was a sin to tell 'filthy lies'. He shook her, demanding the truth and Maggie simply repeated herself. Thomas didn't like that and once again hit her across the face, causing Fiona to grab his arm in an attempt to stop him. Thomas only pushed her away and continued to shake Maggie telling her to tell the truth. A single moment of eye contact and Maggie yelled at him to tell the truth. When Thomas admitted to the affair, he slung Maggie out the front door, calling her a 'demon child' and saying that she better not come back.
Maggie didn't quite understand what had happened and after inspecting her skinned elbow, she dusted herself off and started walking down the street. Surprising even herself when she didn't have the urge to cry. Maggie found herself on a familiar doorstep. Her mother had pointed it out once and told her, Uri, and Talitha that if anything ever happened to come here. Maggie could barely remember her aunt, aside from one day at the market when she was really little.
At first, Maureen was terrified that something had happened to her sister, but Maggie quickly explained what had happened and hesitantly told her about the incident with her father. Maureen only smiled and explained to Maggie that she was just fine, that she was no more a demon child than the Virgin Mary. She then began to tell her about the X-Gene and mutations. Proceeding to show her own abilities. Which were far more interesting than Maggie's, because it involved electricity.
Maggie still saw Uri and Talitha, but only at school. She was disappointed to find that their mother believed every word their father told her; after everything Maggie had done for the woman and she didn't believe her? When she went to Maureen with this, her aunt explained that some people were so shy that they formed unhealthy relationships with the first person to show a romantic interest. Her mother was one of these people, she just couldn't let go, no matter how many times Thomas hurt her or cheated on her.
Maggie was sixteen when she came up with a new name for herself, one that Maureen found quite lovely, herself. Because of her powers, she started to go by Verity. Her aunt even encouraged her to use her powers in public - just to have a little fun, of course. They got a kick out of it sometimes, making people tell the truth, while other times they had to run home after angering he wrong person. Verity slowly started to make her name known to the little town. People started seeing her as a freak or like her father had, a 'devil child'.
When Verity turned eighteen, she finally decided to get out of Castletownbere and go to America. She urged her aunt to come with her, but 'Mo' didn't like planes and was rather content in Ireland. Verity thought New York City was going to be a blast, that it would be a whole new world and she'd have so many adventures. Before she even got off the plane, Verity was taken in by airport security. Listening as her father's name was thrown around a couple times. Very much confused, she didn't understand when she was put on another plane and chartered to an unknown destination.
No one would answer her questions or tell her anything, for that matter. She had had her hands cuffed behind her back and everyone on the plane kept from looking her in the eye; completely ignoring her, actually. It wasn't until she saw the Island outside the window that her fear truly kicked in. And from there it only got worse.
Being locked up and experimented on like a lab rat, definitely hadn't been on Verity's lists of things to do. Time passed her by, only ever finding the what day it was when she happened to catch sight of a lab report. No matter how drugged they kept her, every time she was even the least bit lucid, Verity thought of a plan to escape.
When the opportune moment presented itself, Verity grabbed a metal tray and smashed it against the head of whatever doctor was taking her blood. She wasn't strong, but the tray had some heft to it and knocked the woman out. Much slower than she hoped, Verity grabbed a syringe full of something she couldn't pronounce, before she hid and waited for a guard to come, jumping on his back and jabbing the needle into his neck. Verity took his gun and continued on her path to freedom; shooting with horrible aim at whoever got in her way.
Verity came across another escapee and rather unintentionally they made it off the Island together. Since then, Verity hasn't been able to part with Weston, becoming rather attached from the ordeal they went through.
