Name: Sybil Marianne Hartford.
Title: Lady.
Alias: Lola Volt.
Age: 23.
Birthdate: 05/28/89.
Hometown: Leicester, England.
Family:
Thomas Edward Hartford, 7th Earl of Leicester || Father
Lady Libby Ethel Hartford || Mother
Rufus James Hartford, Viscount Hartford || Brother
Hon. Jasper Henry Hartford || Brother
Appearance: Blonde haired and blue eyed, Sybil stands at a good five foot seven. Many people have said that her and her mother look more like siblings than mother/daughter. Which just means Sybil comes from good genes. While she might not like her 'Lady' title, Sybil likes to dress in finer things. And while her clothes might be pricier, they still don't cover all that much.
Personality: Sybil is very free spirited, she might have been born into propriety, but she doesn't follow it as much as her father would hope. Sybil isn't a complete heathen, knowing when it's best to let others take the lead. She's a very curious person and will try anything at least once. She is also definitely a partier and loves to dance and drink. Sometimes finding life better when she's pissed and strobe lights make her see double.
Powers: Sibyl can produce an electric current over her skin that can shock and incapacitate attackers. Her emotions control the levels in which the current shocks, from a small 'zap' that soon fades to unbearable pain and unconsciousness.
History: Sybil's existence came to be when Johnnie Briggs finally decided to take hold of the reigns on her life. Having gone on a trip with her best friend, Edward Beaumont, Johnnie met a young George Hartford. There was an immediate connection that surprised Johnnie and right before her and Edward were about to leave 1880, she had a vision showing her what her future would be like if she went back to her own time. Deciding to take a chance on her feelings, Johnnie stayed behind, lied about her age, and married George only a month later.
Johnnie soon found herself pregnant, knowing exactly what it would be and already having a name picked out. However, when she became deeply depressed and scared of stairs George grew worrisome. It wasn't until his wife fell down a flight and lost the baby that he understood why. Johnnie hadn't been secretive with George about her mutation and told him of it before they ever married. So, he was furious for a good while that she hadn't told him of the vision. In Johnnie's defense, she didn't know how to tell him they were going to lose their daughter and George couldn't stay mad at her for long when they were both suffering.
Five months later Johnnie grew pregnant again and they moved their bedroom down to the first floor so there wouldn't be any mishaps. The both of them becoming rather paranoid until she finally gave birth to twin boys, Paul and Edward. Everything seemed to be fine and dandy until Paul developed a severe cough that would later be called Pertussis or Whooping Cough. Paul didn't make it a week and Johnnie did everything in her power not to stay in bed and cry all the time. Edward and George needed her, but that didn't mean she didn't have her moments.
Johnnie doted upon her other son after the heartbreak of losing one and her and George never had anymore children in fear of losing another. Over the years Johnnie watched Edward get married to a lovely girl named Charlotte, then have a son of his own, George Maxwell.
George Hartford Sr. lived long enough to see his grandsons eighteenth birthday before he died in 1923 from pneumonia. The loss was paramount and Johnnie had a hard time dealing with it. George had made her see that she could fall helplessly in love again. While Edward Beaumont would always be her best friend, she had finally let go of him and found George to be her soul mate.
Johnnie lived for seventeen more years, holding out to see her first great grandchild, Robert Paul, born before dying in her sleep three years later. Eight years after Robert was born, Thomas Edward came into the family. Robert died in a motorcycle accident at twenty-one years old, giving his title to Thomas and securing any family Thomas would have with Holkham Hall.
Thomas was thirty-six when he met Libby Forde, she was ten years younger than him and was a woman his mother disapproved of, however, his father found her quite entertaining. They married a year later when she grew pregnant. Rufus James was born May 4th, 1983. Thomas had said he wouldn't mind the gender, but he was very happy to have gotten an heir on the first try. Jasper Henry was born four years later on November 20th.
Boys were rather predictable in the Hartford family and when Libby fell pregnant again in 1989, it was quite the surprise when they found they were having a girl. Thomas was having trouble with the naming of his daughter, but Libby had smoothed it out for him. They would be giving their daughter the name Sybil Marianne. Sybil because people had thought Johnnie Hartford was a 'good witch' and Marianne, because one couldn't leave out George Hartford Senior's mother.
Sybil was brought up to be a proper Lady with a few exceptions from her mother. Libby Hartford was not the prim countess type, but for her husband she had calmed down over the years. Even with a little leeway, Sybil grew to hate the nobility part of her life. Even as a child and especially when she became a mutant.
Sybil wasn't exactly like the other little girls she was around. She liked pretty things, sure, but she would rather light candles and pretend to hold séances than to play with barbies. When it came to truth or dare, she wasn't afraid to do even the most extreme dares. One such dare was to stick a fork in a power socket. The act triggered her mutation and instead of being fried to a crisp, the electricity flowed over her skin without causing her an ounce of harm. Sybil was eleven.
After this Sybil didn't have many more playdates and her family tried to comfort her as best they could. She got used to her mutation over the years, learning to control it by the time she was fifteen. It was around this time that she began to rebel a little more than she had when she was younger. Sneaking out and going to clubs, smoking, drinking, and dating boys much older and definitely unsuitable to her families standards. She even went by the name Lola Volt when she was in rough company, so get away from her family
Her father finally set her down one day. He didn't say a word, only handed Sybil a stack of old journals. The first one documented Johnnie Brigg's early life, from the time she was born until she moved to New York City. The second one started on how she met Edward Beaumont and all of the adventures they went on, her feeling for this man were heartbreaking. The last three were about her 'second life'. The first page dating March 18th, 1880. It wasn't such an oddity what with the explanations in the first and second books. What Sybil noticed about the last three books, however, was that each entry was addressed as 'Dear, Edward'.
Sybil became obsessed, this man had been such a big part of her great great grandmothers life and she wanted to meet him. Wanted to see if everything she had read was even real. The day after her eighteenth birthday, Sybil boarded a plane headed for New York. With promises to call her parents every week, she left England.
Arriving at Xavier's had been quite a shock. Johnnie had talked about it briefly in her journal, but Sybil hadn't been ready for the generosity of the Professor or the teachers. The grandness of the mansion didn't phase her, it was something she was quite used to back home. She didn't however think she would be enrolling in college courses, but Xavier had talked her into it. Taking Gender and Sexuality studies and Sociology at NYU.
With the Legacy Virus having swept over the world, Sybil had taken to her studies and graduated college with a BA in Sociology when she finally found what she enjoyed most. The Virus hadn't stopped her from partying on the weekends, though, and many times she skipped out to Hellfire. When the MBI came to the mansion, Sybil was forced to register, much to her dislike. She even had to be detained for some time as she shocked the hell out of one of the officers.
Now, life at the mansion has picked up. What with the memory loss, many mutants are scared. Coming and going as they see fit. The mansion has grown on Sybil and she's willing to help in anyway she can, however she hasn't lost sight of her own mission.
