Full name: Amandine ‘Mandy’ Laurent
Alias: None
Age: 22
Birthday: 6th December 1986
Hometown: Queens, New York
Appearance: Mandy has quite a unique sense of style, preferring to wear what she wants, but not without entirely avoiding the fashion trends. Matching her personality, she goes for eye-catching outfits that show off her bold nature, while keeping in a feminine touch. She treats her wardrobe like an art palette, liking to experiment with her appearance, and enjoys making different styles of fashion clash. She’s not very tall, standing at a modest 5’2”, but her height is irrelevant when she has such an arrestingly bold appearance. Otherwise, Mandy has the rather normal shades of black hair and brown eyes.
Personality: Bright and energetic would be a good way to start describing Mandy. She has a great zest for getting the most out of life, and has been known to do things on a whim, without entirely considering the consequences. She’s loud and proud, carrying a rather bolshie behaviour that somehow enables to avoid conflicting with her frivolous nature. Mandy’s the kind of girl who would be the first to respond to conflict, most likely by mouthing off and taking them down a peg or two. This behaviour tends to hide an insecure front, however. Despite her spirit, she can have a lack of confidence in herself, and seems to have a need to draw attention to herself in order to feel wanted, however crazy the method might be. She’s an attention-seeker for all kinds of reasons, both the good and bad variety.
Powers: Mandy’s powers are of a mental variety. She can cause people to lose portion of their memory, and even modify it. It takes a degree of concentration, and she’s never used her powers on a large-scale – only for something like making people forget something a little embarrassing that she could do without. There is a huge side-effect to her mutation however, and it has been prevalent ever since they developed. Mandy often loses chunks of her own memory, sometimes without realising and at other times having horrible consequences. The amnesia has no connection to when she uses her powers, and happens at random.
History: Mandy was born and raised in Queens, New York, and for all her childhood life has been used to being on the doorstep of Manhattan. Her ancestors on her father’s side originate from France, explaining the French influences on her name. Mandy’s childhood had no major interruptions that would make it deviate from a normal upbringing, and it wasn’t till she developed her mutation that her life had any real problems.
Initially, Mandy wasn’t even aware she had powers. They had developed rather covertly when she was 15, and she only realised something wasn’t quite right when she had apparently erased a few awkward incidents from her friends minds, on more than one occasion. If she wanted them to forget something, they did, and this was a habit that she recognised as reoccurring. However, the real issues began when it was her own memories that were being affected. Unsettled by what she had inflicted on her friends, she had tried hard to ignore whatever this strange gift was, and carry on with her life as normal. She didn’t realise that she was occasionally forgetting things in her day-to-day life, as the amnesia started off on a small scale. She wouldn’t be able to recall what she had for breakfast, or what time it had been despite looking at a clock moments before.
Most of the time, things she forgot were irrelevant, that could easily be passed off as being scatter-brained, which became one of her well-known traits. It was a few years later, when she decided to leave home and make the move to Manhattan to begin her own life did the forgetfulness start to grow worse. She was forgetting larger chunks of her day and at times, would find herself in a different room, having no recollection of getting up and moving. Mandy passed off these occurrences as black-outs related to stress, and avoided telling her parents or the man she was dating. After all, the Legacy Virus had been growing, and everyone in America was on tenterhooks. As the virus threat began to grow worse, Mandy felt more fearful about the impact it was going to have on their lives and how she’d never be able to get through her life the way she had hoped. In a moment of spontaneity, she shocked her boyfriend with an abrupt proposal, despite the fact they had barely been going out a year. However, the fear over the virus was making these kind of decisions much more commonplace, and he accepted. They didn't have lots of money, and couldn't get a big glamorous wedding, but they intended to make the most of this event before the entire country was taken over by the drama of the pandemic.
The only problem was, come her wedding day, Mandy had the biggest bout of amnesia so far in her life, and couldn’t remember the man she was supposed to be marrying.
