Full name: Jason Walters
Alias: Regent
Age: 35
Birthday: 1st April 1974
Appearance: Almost always in dark clothing, Regent is quick to give off a somewhat foreboding appearance. His hair is usually sleeked back, but can also be found hanging somewhat unkempt. He can go through varying states of tidiness, his appearance as vacillating as his personality; sometimes appearing well kempt and smart or at other times, roguish and dishevelled. However, many things about him seem rough, from the coarse stubble that darkens his jaw to the bold black tattoo that emblazons his left shoulder, arm and back. He carries himself with a powerful edge, but there remains to be something not quite right about him. He gives off an air of uncertainty that warns people to keep clear.
Personality: The side effects of Regent’s powers gives the appearance of and led to the following diagnoses of psychosis and schizophrenia. His previous mental institution also classified him as ‘extremely dangerous’. He also appears to suffer from bi-polar disorder, with moods changes fast and broad; he is prone to fits of rage, child-like mannerisms and suicidal behaviour. There’s an evident underlying temper however, with violent tendencies. When he has angry phases there’s no limit to his sadism and he has zero empathy. His behaviour can often be incomprehensible; with little underlying explanation to why he acts the way he does, despite countless doctors trying. He seems to treat everything like a game, finding amusement in scenarios a normal person would find sickening. This doesn’t mean he is a man void of intelligence; he has a surprising wit and a keen astuteness. Unfortunately, this enables him to be extremely manipulative and has an intellectual knack for evading the authorities.
Powers: His mutation lies in the ability to read and manipulate the minds of others. Unfortunately, each time he does this that person’s thoughts, memories and emotions remain trapped inside his own head and do not leave. It has not been medically proven if his demanding powers are linked to his labelled mental illnesses, but it is assumed to be the case. Regent has little moral ethics in venturing into another person’s head and playing with their thoughts, despite breaking the unspoken code of decency for telepaths. He’s aware of the risks it can bring to his own state of mind, however, and normally struggles for a short while afterwards to separate the identities in his head.
Background: Regent was born Jason Walters in Indiana in 1974 and spent most of his childhood being brought up by his mother. She struggled by most of the time and suffered from depression and drug-abuse, which had continued from a reckless teenage lifestyle. His mother accidentally overdosed on heroin when he was twelve years old, triggering his powers in his bid to block the event from his memory. Following her death, his father, whom he had not seen since he was a baby was given legal parentage. After having a bad start in life, his fortunes did not increase with his father, who, if possible, had even worse parental traits than his mother had. There was little income into the household; his father was a notoriously violent man with a strong affection for alcohol and little for his son. It was during his stay with his father that he began to investigate the possibilities of his newfound powers, including mind control. With that came the mental distortion that slowly grew worse the more he used and explored his powers. Eight years later, he was arrested for the murder of his father and sent to a mental institution for life when found guilty of manslaughter ‘with diminished responsibility for reasons of insanity’. However, when admitted, Regent severely downplayed the extent of his power’s strength to make them grow incautious to his abilities, before he eventually used them kill his supervisors and escape from the mental asylum.
Since then, Regent has been wanted for further murders, rapes and other abhorrently violent crimes but has been avoiding the legal authorities for over eight years. In light of the recent virus outbreak, Regent hasn't had much of a reaction to it, taking it all in his stride and at times finding the panic of others amusing and something he should joke about. So far, he has evaded MRA registration as well as he has avoided police arrest.
