Name: Christina Reed
Title: Lieutenant
Alias: Era
Date of birth: 12th February 1976
Age: 34
Nationality: American
Hair: Dark brown
Eyes: Green
Height: 5’8”
Appearance: Era carries herself with carefully executed poise, not a woman who would ever slouch. It gives off an arrogant demeanour, which isn’t far from the truth. She’s a hue of darker shades, preferring attire that blends her in well to the shadows and doesn’t call immediate attention to her. That doesn’t mean her appearance doesn’t take advantage of her body shape, however. Her hair, though long, is often tightly tied back in a bun or ponytail when she is working. Her definition gives hints to her field of work; toned, but not overly muscular. When on duty, she tends to wear rather fitting outfits, so nothing can impede her velocity in any way; but when she’s not working she opts for a casual, unassuming look. She has a number tattoos on her torso, those on her abdomen, as well as upper and lower back hidden by her clothes, but some of the artwork is visible on her wrists and forearms when she’s not wearing gloves. She has withstood the pain of the intricately detailed work from her ability to speed up her session for herself. There is the ironic line ‘know your rights’ inked above the back of her shoulder blades, while more recently, she has a row of numerical digits on the inside of her forearm, inked into her skin permanently as a sardonic slur against those she works for, for it’s her mutant registration code.
Personality: Intuitive is a word well-suited to describe Era. Era adopts self-confidence, carrying herself with a silver tongue and a sharp wit that gives her a cool sense of humour. She is calm under pressure (at least to the public eye,) adopting a hard and cool manner that can make her easy to dislike. She can have a demanding nature at times, bordering on hostile, as she is aware of her authority as a police officer. At her worse, she can become rather dictatorial. She has a domineering personality, and dislikes to relinquish control of situations, including relationships. She is difficult to open up when behind such a locked front, which means the real woman behind this cover is rarely seen. Era very much keeps to herself regardless, working alone and being extremely self-reliant. She blocks out emotion to enable her to do her job mechanically, and prefers to not let things get to her that might give clues to a softer side, as she feels it could be abused. To those who do try to get ‘deep’ with her, she’s most likely to insult their attempts and keep softer emotions concealed. However, given her upbringing, she does have an element of propriety about her, encouraged by her well-spoken tone and the way she carries herself.
Powers: Era is time-sensitive; she has an understanding of the chronological forces and is able to manipulate it to her will. Her abilities enable her to both increase and decrease time for herself, meaning she can move exceptionally fast to the point of being invisible to the naked eye. The ability to both slow and speed up time work in harmony together; she might slow down time to dodge something extremely fast, but to the human eye has moved in a speedy blur. She cannot use her powers to try and manipulate the speed of time for anyone else. Any attempts at such power bigger than she can control will leave her feverish and weak.
History: Living in New York all her life, Era grew up in a well-financed home and lived a childhood without wanting for much. The development of her powers was troubling for the society her parents were in, and she kept them to herself for much of her teenage life. As she grew older, she became more restless with the lifestyle of being constantly provided for, and as a result began to develop a harder edge as she began to rebel against her strict upbringing. Provocative clothing, piercings and tattoos led her to being suspended from her private school while her parents remained at loss at why their daughter had grown up this way. In an adamant and defiant mindset, Era frequently argued against her parents’ rules and values, and during one confrontation, admitted she was a mutant. In true teenage fashion, it had been a vehement and haughty outburst that immediately saw her parents concerned for her wellbeing, as they believe the mutation is what had changed from being the gentle child she had once been. Adamant she did not need her parents’ wealth, she left the family home to pursue a career at the age of 18.
Several years later, her headstrong determination and intelligence allowed her to become a part of the New York Police Department where she was well-known for being a no-nonsense member of the detective squad. During her time living alone, she grew street-smart and further assertive, enabling her to storm her way through to a higher rank of Sergeant seven years after beginning her training. Era remained to live alone, and had only a few short-term relationships that often failed due to her inability to resist taking control and not allowing people to see beyond her hard exterior. She feels men are only attracted her because they see her as someone who needs to be tamed, which only encourages her domineering behavior.
When the Legacy Virus reached Manhattan, she took part in protecting the streets from the panic and violence as riots broke out on an almost daily basis and crime escalated as people’s morals became looser.
When the MRA was passed, and she had to reveal her mutant identity, she feared she would have to resign from her position. That didn’t occur, and instead she was kept on board, forced to register and informed she would be helping a mutant division of the FBI in the task to keep New York safe in light of the virus outbreak and registration attempts. This turn of events has caused her attitude to change towards her job, but it is not vocalized. However, she knows this route has to be better than becoming a criminal herself, and vehemently wishes to remain within the rules of the law, which is why she accepted registration with begrudging acknowledgment.
Era only occasionally visits the MBI office when she is needed, and is their contact to the NYPD. She remains to be their outside source, and often has information from the police department that can be of important use to the team. When she is not helping the MBI, she is doing her usual job of protecting the citizens of Manhattan and taking care of her unit.
