Full Name: Jennifer Tallulah Appleby
Alias: Phosgene
Birthday: July 11
Age: 23
Hometown: Winston-Salem, North Carolina
Occupation: unemployed
Family:
Gunther Appleby (father, 55, electrician)
Cassandra Jablonski (mother, 49, piano teacher)
William Jablonski (step-father, 50, business man)
Cecilia Appleby (sister, 20, poison generation)
Tucker Jablonski (half-brother, 16)
Katherine Jablonski (half-sister, 14)
Appearance: Growing up in a middle-class family with down-home values, Jenn dresses very casually and almost like a tomboy. She often wears jeans and a t-shirt and doesn’t mess too much with her long dirty-blond hair. She has wide, kind brown eyes that earned her many nicknames in elementary school like ‘Bambi’. Her skins always has a slight tan, and she has a rounded nose that gives her a girlish look. She’s not super thin, but has a petite frame with subtle curves.
Personality: Jenn’s always been the nice girl. She’s never intentionally hurt someone in her life, and has always strived to be kind to everyone. Her sweet spirit and easy-going way often rub off on those around her, and she doesn’t believe she’s ever really had someone not like her. Those people were probably just being nice to her face, however, as some people grow tired of the goody-goody, people-pleasing attitude. Just before college graduation, her roommate informed her of this fact, and now Jenn’s determined to start exploring other areas of her personality. She has a good sense of humor, and is willing to try anything so Jenn now has a deal with herself to do everything she can, whether illegal or legal. She just wants to have fun and have people like her, but in the back of her mind she’s still just a plain old nice girl.
Powers: Jenn has the ability to generate a very strong acid from the palms of her hands. This usually only happens when she’s feeling a very strong emotion such as fear and anxiety. Her tears also turn acidic on occasion, usually only when she’s sobbing very intensely. She herself is immune to the effects of the acid, but it immediately eats through whatever it touches including metal and other people’s flesh. The acids lose strength in water, just as normal acids do, but she hasn’t discovered this yet.
History:
Jennifer’s parents split when she was only four years old. The situation was very messy, as Gunther wanted to try and work through their issues, but Cassandra was set and determined that she was leaving him. She has already begun seeing William before they were separated and the tension in the house was evident even to Jenn. Both Cassandra and Gunther loved their daughters, so they were able to work out joint custody and the girls alternated weeks at their parents houses.
Through this, Jenn grew very close to her sister and also learned how to make everyone hear what they want to hear and make people happy. She always did well in school, and never gave either of her parents a reason to punish her. Not even once.
When she was in the ninth grade, Jennifer discovered she was a mutant that had acid sweating out of her palms while being teased. The door to her locker began to be eaten away under her hand. She immediately confided in her younger sister, and before the week was over told her father. He didn’t quite understand, as she wasn’t able to recreate the effect, but was as sweet as he had always been. He began researching about mutants and how he could help her, and ended up stumbling across Xavier’s. After talking to Cassandra and William, they agreed that it would be for the best to send Jennifer to the institute after her freshman year was finished.
She spent the rest of her high school career there before leaving for college back in her hometown. She used her closeness to her family to reconnect with her younger sister, who she discovered had been hiding a power similar to her own: the ability to create poison that can knock others out or cause them to become ill.
However, once she finished college, she felt the need to go back to the Institute as she missed being around so many other mutants. She also is trying to reinvent herself somewhat, which she knows will be easier away from her family.
